Funded in part by the Government of Ontario, Parkbus is designed to accommodate all groups of park users, with convenient stops at campgrounds, canoe access points, trailheads and lodges. While the program is designed with new campers in mind, anyone wishing to get to their favourite camping spot without having to drive can take advantage of the service. Toronto pickup locations are conveniently located next to subway stops near College, Dufferin and Glencairn stations. Those without equipment or experience will find advice and gear rental information on program website, or can opt for an all-inclusive package with one of the outfitters in the park.
“The McGuinty Government is pleased to support this innovative eco-friendly way to see and enjoy our beautiful province. Our support for this initiative provides a wonderful opportunity for residents and visitors alike to access our renowned parks and other recreational facilities, ultimately contributing to local economies and helping Ontario in turning the corner” said Michael Chan, Minister of Tourism and Culture.
“With its misty-morning lakes and its vast wooded areas, Algonquin Park is one of Ontario’s greatest natural treasures,” said Linda Jeffrey, Minister of Natural Resources. “Whether you like the full comfort of a lodge, want to try a night in a yurt or to sleep in a tent under the stars, this new service will help get people in the GTA closer to one of this provinces greatest treasures.”
Buses are operated by Muskoka-based Hammond Transportation, with service set to start on July 7th and run weekly until September 5th with Thursday departures (Northbound) and Sunday arrivals (Southbound). A one-way adult fare is $34.95+HST. For trip planning information, complete schedule and tickets visit www.parkbus.ca or call 1-800-928-7101.
