EDGEWALK CELEBRATES OPENING DAY “FIRSTS”
First marriage proposal, 25th anniversary, EdgeWalkers from Canada, USA, Philippines, India & more

TORONTO, August 4, 2011 – EdgeWalk at the CN Tower opened to the public August 1, 2011 celebrating a number of firsts.

At 10:00 a.m. on a sunny opening day morning, Jack Robinson, Chief Operating Officer of the CN Tower cut the ribbon to send off the first public EdgeWalkers to experience their walk on the edge of one of the world’s greatest man-made wonders.  Among the first group of adventure lovers was the day’s youngest walker at 18 years and the youngest at heart at 73 years.  Throughout the day, over 120 EdgeWalkers came from all over the world to be the first to experience the world’s highest full circle ‘hands-free’ walk, 356m/1168ft (116 stories) above the ground including the first from Ontario, Canada (Toronto, Mississauga, North York, Richmond Hill, Peterborough, Sutton West, St. Catharines and Chatham), USA (West Warwick, Rhode Island), Philippines (Naga City), India (Mumbai) and others.

At approximately 1:45pm, EdgeWalk celebrated a first marriage proposal when Michael Carpenter of West Warwick, Rhode Island (first US citizen to
experience EdgeWalk) proposed to Mary Rose Tinoco (first Philippines citizen).  To the delight of other members of their group, Mr. Carpenter
proposed to Ms. Tinoco during the Walk itself while leaning forward high above Toronto and then again on bended knee back on the ground in
Basecamp where he placed the ring on her finger.

One daughter who came to walk with her father had bought him the ticket as a Father’s Day gift.  Other Opening Day participants using the unique
and breathtaking EdgeWalk experience to celebrate personal milestones included a couple celebrating their 25th wedding anniversary.

Comments overheard from enthusiastic EdgeWalkers throughout the day upon their return to Basecamp included: “Amazing!”, “I highly
recommend it!” and “Everyone should do it!”.

EdgeWalk is CN Tower’s most thrilling attraction in its 35 year history, and the first of its kind in North America. It is the world’s highest full circle hands-free walk on a 5 ft (1.5 m) wide ledge encircling the top of the Tower’s main pod. Visitors will walk in groups of six, while attached to an overhead safety rail via a trolley and harness system. Trained EdgeWalk guides will encourage participants to push their personal limits, allowing them to lean back over Toronto with nothing but air and breathtaking views of Lake Ontario beneath them.  Designed with the highest international safety and security standards in mind, EdgeWalk will run 1.5 hours, with the outdoor walk lasting approximately 30 minutes. Tickets cost $175 CAD and include a keepsake video, photos and certificate of achievement. Participants will also receive a Total Tower Experience Ticket which includes access to Look Out, Glass Floor, Sky Pod, Movie and Motion Theatre Ride. EdgeWalk will operate seasonally from May to October in all weather except for electrical storms and high winds. Varying weather conditions will make the EdgeWalk experience different with each visit.  An official public EdgeWalk launch event and celebration is planned for September 15, 2011.  Further details to follow.

Demand for reservations for Toronto’s newest attraction has been high since tickets went on sale June 1.  Further information about EdgeWalk can be found at www.edgewalkcntower.ca
