Headwaters Arts Festival opens Sept. 30

Alton, Ontario (September 12, 2012) – The Headwaters Arts Festival is back with 19 days of exciting events including a juried art show and sale that features more than 45 local artists, open studios, literature readings, studio tours, concerts and workshops for both kids and adults between September 20 and October 8.

The annual juried Festival Art Show and Sale is once again the centrepiece of the Festival and this year features more than 45 local artists and 250-plus pieces of art. The theme this year is Art for Art’s Sake. This show, which is open and free to the public Fridays from 5 to 9 p.m. and weekends from 11 a.m. to 5 p.m., September 21-23 and 28-30, is once again being held at the SGI Canada Caledon Centre for Culture and Education in Alton.

The smash-hit Armchairs, Authors and Art event returns Friday, September 28 for its seventh year. This year’s features an award-studded cast of writers, including a Giller Prize winner and a Writer’s Trust Journey Prize winner. Moderator Nicola Ross, a local author, will host Hugh Brewster, Miranda Hill, Linden McIntyre and Emily Schultz for a panel discussion on their work and the art of writing. Armchairs, Authors and Art is presented at the SGI Canada Caledon Centre in association with BookLore. Tickets are $25 at BookLore (519-942-3830) or from the Festival Office (519-942-1149).

The Festival features close to 40 different events and open studios throughout the hills of Headwaters.
