Tutored Tastings brings the world of wine to the Gourmet Food & Wine Expo

NEWS RELEASE
September 6, 2012

TORONTO – If you’re a new wine lover or have been a fan of the finest vintages for years, the Gourmet Food & Wine Expo’s Tutored Tastings experience has over 20 different wine tasting classes this year.

“The Gourmet Food & Wine Expo is known for featuring fantastic chefs and restaurants as well as the amazing spirits and beer producers, but an enduring highlight is the tremendous wine offerings that we have from all corners of the world,” said Christopher Waters, Tutored Tastings Program Director of the Gourmet Food & Wine Expo.

Back for its 18th year at the Metro Toronto Convention Centre, the Gourmet Food & Wine Expo will run from November 15 – 18 in the North building.

The pinnacle attraction for wine enthusiasts is the returning of the Tutored Tastings Program. Twenty-three different wine tasting classes will be conducted by the most knowledgeable and entertaining hosts in the wine world, and beginners and long-time connoisseurs will be sure to find something to satisfy their curiosity.

“This year’s Tutored Tastings have such amazing hosts, including Igor Ryjenkov, one of only four Masters of Wine in Canada, Jerry Comfort, a food and wine pairing expert from Napa’s Beringer Vineyards, Kevin Brauch, Food Network celebrity and host of The Thirsty Traveler and many more,” said Waters.

The classes range from Best of the Best, Perfect Pairings, Taste Like A Pro, Californian Gold, Best Off the Vines and much more. The signature event is the 2012 Gourmet Gala taking place on the Friday of the expo — a special evening of fine food and wine that celebrates winners of the InterVin International Wine Awards.

“Another returning favourite is the All You Need Is Cheese stage, hosted by the Dairy Farmers of Canada. This has always been a popular feature that demonstrates how to select the right cheese from the vast array and also how to pair your wine with your cheese,” said Waters.

The All You Need Is Cheese stage will be hosted by renowned Cheese Expert, Anne Marie Shubin, of the Dairy Farmers of Canada, who will guide guests through a ‘sensing’ of six varieties of cheese, sharing her knowledge of the characteristics of soft, semi-soft and firm styles as well as advice on serving with style and tasty pairings with wine and beer.

This year’s Gourmet Food & Wine Expo is also welcoming Buick as the spotlight sponsor. For more information on the Gourmet Food & Wine Expo and to buy tickets to the Tutored Tastings, please visit www.FoodAndWineExpo.ca.
