Cool festivals celebrate winter in Niagara

(News Release)

Niagara Icewine Festival and CAA Winter Festival of Lights among the Top 10 Winter Festivals in Canada

NIAGARA FALLS, Ont. – Already known worldwide as a great destination for a summer escape, Niagara is also recognized as a fantastic place to celebrate the best of a truly Canadian winter.

Last year, two of Niagara’s premier winter attractions — the CAA Winter Festival of Lights and the Niagara Icewine Festival – made it onto the Top 10 list of Canada’s best winter festivals, which was put together by trusted online news portal Canoe.ca.

“Niagara doesn't hibernate when the cool weather sets in. Just because the temperature drops and the snow starts to fall doesn’t mean the city slows down," says Anthony Annunziata, Vice-President of Marketing for the Marriott Fallsview Hotel & Spa. “If anything, Niagara becomes even more beautiful in the winter; and both of these festivals do a great job of highlighting all the activities and entertainment that are available to do during a visit in the winter season."

With the CAA Winter Festival of Lights marking its 30th season in 2013, the display planned for Queen Victoria Park this year includes more than 125 animated lighting displays and 3 million tree and ground lights which can be seen within the Niagara Parks Winter Wonderland, including the world-famous Enchantment of Disney® displays and the world’s largest illuminated Canadian-American Flag.

The Festival, which runs from November 3, 2012 to January 31, 2013, has become a wintertime tradition for more than 1 million local residents and visitors from around the world.  We invite you to experience the many events and attractions Niagara Falls and the CAA Winter Festival of Lights have to offer, including the TD RINK at the Brink.

The Niagara Icewine Festival, from January 11 to 27, 2013, celebrates one of Niagara's most celebrated commodities. Highly prized Niagara Icewine, made from grapes left on the vine to sweeten and then freeze, is served up at wineries and venues across the peninsula during the festival’s 16-day run.

“In addition to being the closest hotel to the crest of Niagara Falls, the Marriott Fallsview’s location offers an ideal starting point for visitors to take in these great winter events,” says Annunziata. “Our fallsview guest suites overlook Queen Victoria Park, which means many of the amazing Winter Festival of Lights displays are just steps away.  Guests can also enjoy the fireworks over the Falls from the warmth of their room, where they can also enjoy some of Niagara’s finest icewines.”

The Marriott Fallsview offers numerous packages to help guests enjoy Niagara Falls in all its winter glory, including the Winter Festival of Lights package and other great packages for couples and family.
