A Vision Come True
This year’s Authors’ Book Fair, will
be held Saturday, April 6th 10-5 and Sunday, April 7th
11-4 at the Lighthouse Festival Theatre, Port Dover.
In
2009, Susan Bennett, a Norfolk County artist and teacher had a different vision
than one would expect of a visual artist. Being an avid reader, she decided it
would be a wonderful idea to start an annual book fair.
An event that would
promote literacy, reading, and mentoring for established published authors and
new first time authors in a form in which they could present and sell their
books. This vision is now known as the Authors’ Book Fair.
In
2011 the Authors’ Book Fair (ABF) partnered with Norfolk Public Libraries’
program Teens Write for Fun. This project was the brain child of another
talented artist, S. Goble.
The Teens Write is a contest in which teens apply
their creative powers, writing prose and poetry and competing for prizes. The
contest is juried by a panel of local ‘luminaries’. The winners are featured in
an annual, excellently produced book titled ‘Teens Write for Fun Contest
Winners’.
The
ABF, in keeping with many of its goals in particular mentoring, co-hosted the
Teens Write for Fun Awards night introducing our authors to the young teen
writers. The ABF committee hopes again to partner with Teens Write for Fun.
Perhaps one day one of the winners will be one of our published authors.
Throughout the weekend our
