The Orillia Parks, Recreation and Culture Department will mark the eightieth anniversary of the film classic “KING KONG” at the launch of the Movies in the Park series on Wednesday, June 26 at the Rotary Aqua Theatre in Couchiching Beach Park.

Presented as part of June is Recreation and Parks Month, this is the first of three screenings to be presented this summer.

Come and enjoy this iconic adventure for the first time or again under the stars. The original King Kong has been masterfully restored to its former glory in magnificent black and white. Starring Fay Wray and Robert Armstrong, this ground-breaking classic paved the way for Godzilla, Jaws, Jurassic Park and countless others.

In celebration of Kong’s eightieth birthday, the concessions are offering up King Kong Hot Dogs, a delicacy so obtuse it could go by no other name. Provided by Schneider’s Meats, The King Kong Dog measures over a foot in length, is 100% all beef and truly is the 9th Wonder of the World! Available at both Couchiching Beach Park and Kitchener Park while supplies last, this culinary monstrosity can be had for just $5.00.

Come for 8:30pm and hear from film and media specialist and Orillia’s foremost authority on King Kong, Peter McGarvey, who will be speaking on the history of the iconic film and its lasting impact on modern cinema. This speaking engagement is brought to you by Lakehead University.

Other Movies in the Park this summer will include Neil Young Journeys (July 17) and The Rocky Horror Picture Show (Aug 14).

The screenings are FREE and will begin at dusk or approx. 9:30PM at the Rotary Aqua Theatre. Seating is limited; bring a lawn-chair or blanket.
