Québec City as the best destination in the country |

The prestigious tourism
magazine, Travel+Leisure, just published the results of its 2013
World’s Best Awards, and its readers have spoken: Québec City is the top
destination in Canada and the eighth best in North America.
Québec
City has moved up a rung since last year, surpassing Vancouver as the
most popular Canadian destination. This achievement means Québec City
keeps its prized spot in the Hall of Fame, a select group of
destinations that have ranked highly for ten or more consecutive years.
This
broad-ranging survey of the magazine’s readers was carried out from
December 2012 to April 2013. The cities were evaluated according to six
criteria: sights, arts and culture, restaurants and food, locals,

is what has enabled us to reach and maintain such a top spot in this
prestigious ranking. And it’s even more encouraging to know that it’s
the magazine readers who vote for us,” explains Québec City Tourism director Gabriel Savard.
Another kudo for Québec City—Auberge Saint-Antoine was again voted one of the top 3 hotels surveyed in its category.

Nearly five years to
the day since his first visit, Paul McCartney will be back to give a
concert in Québec City on July 23, 2013! Touched by the crowd’s
enthusiastic response in 2008, Sir Paul remarked that the historical
evening in question “was one I will never forget.” It should come as no
surprise, then, that he leapt at the opportunity to perform before his
loyal Québec City fans on the Plains of Abraham during his new Out There
tour.

Public lyrical art performances across the city
The third edition of the Festival d’Opéra de Québec
will run from July 24 to August 5. This year’s program reflects the
organizers’ desire to celebrate the lyrical arts with opera lovers and
the general public through both traditional and more innovative
activities.
A devilishly good show: La Damnation de Faust
Once
again, the Opera Festival has succeeded in drawing a major
international show. In association with Ex Machina, the Festival will
present La Damnation de Faust, an opera that has had rave reviews
in New York, Paris and Tokyo. Produced by Robert Lepage and directed by
Giuseppe Grazioli, this masterpiece will be held in the Louis-Fréchette
auditorium at the Grand Théâtre de Québec on July 25 (8 p.m.), 27 (2
p.m.), and 29 and 31 (8 p.m.).

The City of Québec announces the return of the Bordeaux Wine Festival in Québec City from August 29 to September 1, 2013, at Espace 400e.
“The
success of this event in 2012 proved that the people of Québec City
have a fine palate and enjoy making new culinary discoveries,” said
Québec City mayor Régis Labeaume. “Given how popular last year’s event
was, how could we not hold it again? I think it is safe to say a tasty
new tradition was born!”
“The culture of wine is the key to
gaining a better understanding of our world. The common heritage shared
by wine-making civilizations goes far beyond the globalization of
trade,” added Alain Juppé, former French prime minister (1995–1997) and
the current mayor of Bordeaux.
Serving up fine wine and good food!
The
menu for this festive public event includes Bordeaux wine, local
culinary specialities, workshops, gourmet entertainment and much more.
Once again, visitors will be amazed by how well Bordeaux wine
complements Québec gastronomy!
Until then, don’t miss the opportunity to see the last edition of the popular Image Mill projection event and the free Cirque du Soleil show developed especially for Québec City.

The Québec government has reviewed and approved the project to expand the Musée national des beaux-arts du Québec.
Among the changes made to the project include a simpler but equally
aesthetic design for the curtain walls of structural and conventional
glass and the removal of some inside walls to improve visitor flow.
The
proposed tunnel between the future pavilion and the existing museum
complex has been redrawn. The main building will now be linked to the
Pierre-Lassonde pavilion rather than the Charles-Baillairgé pavilion.
This was done for functional reasons, as well as to allow Riopelle’s
famous triptych, Hommage à Rosa Luxembourg, to be displayed.
Throughout the summer of 2013, you can visit the exhibit Alfred Pelland: In the Studio at the Musée des beaux-arts du Québec.

New lift at Mont-Sainte-Anne to open in December 2013 |

A multi-million dollar investment
Mont-Sainte-Anne
is pleased to announce its major investment in a new mechanical lift
for its expert ski runs. Built in Saint-Jérôme, Québec, this detachable
quad lift will replace the current three-seater chairlift. This
investment will, among other things, cut the time to get to the top of
the runs in half and allow a larger skiable area to be served.
Recognized
for the vertical drop and breathtaking view of the St. Lawrence River
and Québec City, the expert runs at Mont-Sainte-Anne will be enhanced
with the installation of this new lift. Thanks to its advanced
snow-making technology, Mont-Sainte-Anne has the longest ski season in
eastern Québec, extending from mid-November to the end of April.
