HarbourKIDS: Thanksgiving

Let’s Create and Appreciate

TORONTO, ON - September 20, 2013 --  As Summer fades into the cool and colour of the Fall, Harbourfront Centre takes a day to say thanks for all of the things that make us unique in the world of family programming.

On Thanksgiving Day, Monday, October 14, 2013, HarbourKIDS:  Thanksgiving will express our gratitude to the throngs of people who have included us in their busy summer plans, and for the art and artists who continue to distinguish us from the myriad of other options for which Toronto is well known.

HarbourKIDS:  Thanksgiving is an entrée into our world of invigorating Fall and Winter family programming which will showcase upcoming indoor and outdoor offerings to audiences who have come to expect and appreciate our artistic consistency year-round.

We are grateful to be part of Toronto’s vibrant arts community, and for the incredible natural beauty of our surroundings here, at the heart of Toronto’s waterfront.  We have created a day of family activities which recognize our leading role in the arts community, including:  designing your own City of Craft street sign, tweeting your love of Toronto in 140 characters at Dear Toronto, building your own LEGO city, seeing the It’s Your City Toronto touchable art exhibit, watching the three winning bands perform on the Redpath Stage and exploring the Wonderful World of Wool at the Wise Daughters Craft Market.
For more fun, inspiration and creativity than you could ever find on a hay wagon, HarbourKIDS: Thanksgiving serves up a full day of hands-on artistic expression, imagination and accomplishment…and it’s all FREE!   You can audition at Zack Werner’s Idol School competition, rock out with host Terra Hazelton on the Redpath Stage, and take in an interactive storytelling experience with Singer/Songwriter Orit Shimoni.
Don’t miss the Music with Bite concert, “Head in the Clouds’ performed in English and French  by harpist Annabelle Renzo, and co-produced with Jeunesse Musicales Ontario; sit back and enjoy some of the National Film Board’s best animated short films, and do some shopping at the Lakeview Market by City of Craft.  Then get yourself pumped up again for a workout at the Natrel® Harvest Challenge.
As you’re catching your breath between shows and workshops, visit The Tale of Harbourfront Centre, a Fresh Ground new works commission, co-produced by Fixt Point. We’re collecting stories to help celebrate our upcoming 40th Anniversary.  You were here.  Tell us your story.  Be among the first to share in this exciting participatory art project.
Kids know, as do their parents in tow, that HarbourKIDS programming is designed for them and is more fun and satisfying than anything else they’ll ever do. They’ve told us so, and how to make it grow, and so it gets bigger and better with each installment.  HarbourKIDS: Thanksgiving is for kids of all ages – a banquet of contemporary arts and culture, served up with large dollops of can-do’ism.  Grab the family. Take transit, bike or drive. Just get here for the time of your life.
