Come out this long weekend to the Zoo
for a WILD challenge! Wildgoose is an exciting phone and tablet based
GPS scavenger hunt that will take you on an educational and fun tour of
the Zoo. Collect as many points as you can by answering the questions
about the Zoo animals correctly. There will be a question for each year
the zoo has been open - that's 40 years for those of you who don't know!
Learn more about animals that you may have never heard of, like the
Burmese Star Tortoise or the Babirusa!
The program will be available to all Zoo guests, with an optional suggested donation of $2 (all money collected will go to the Endangered Species Reserve Fund).

Registrar to participation in this year's Ontario BioBlitz
Saturday May 24 to Sunday May 25, 2014.
The Ontario BioBlitz is a collaborative effort by key conservation
leaders to determine the biodiversity of plants and animals in Ontario.
80% of Canada's biodiversity is still unknown. The Ontario BioBlitz's
goal is document all life in Ontario while educating Ontarians about the
importance of our biological diversity. The 2013 Ontario BioBlitz held
in Rouge Park was the largest survey of its kind in Canadian history. Toronto Zoo experts will be working in the field
along side of other scientists from Parks Canada, ROM, TRCA, University
of Toronto, University of Guelph, York University, Trent
University, Kortright Centre, McMichael Canadian Art Collection, Ontario
Nature, Canadian Wildlife Federation and Rouge Park. To catalogue the
true diverseness of Ontario will provide a better understanding of
population management, wildlife and habitat protection and urban sprawl.

Is it a cat? Not quite! Slender-tailed meerkats (think Timon from the Lion King) are part of the mongoose family.
Come out
and join us every Saturday at 1:30 pm during the month of May to watch
our mob of meerkats cleverly extract crickets and mealworms from special
enrichment devices! They will also keep you fascinated with their
ability to excavate tunnels in which they live, only coming out during
the day to hunt for food and soak up warmth from the sun!

World Fish Migration Day 2014 (WFMD) is
a one day global initiative, with local events worldwide, to create
awareness on the importance of open rivers and migratory fish. WFMD is
held to improve the publics' understanding of the importance of open
rivers and migratory fish and their needs. Visit the America's Pavilion
and learn about the Toronto Zoo's important Atlantic salmon rear and
release program involvement with local schools! Visitors will have the
opportunity to learn about the fascinating life travels of the native
American eel. Join the Toronto's Zoo Great Lakes Outreach Program, which
is a FREE, curriculum-based education program that encourages students,
educators and families to "Keep our Great Lakes Great" while learning
about five local fish species at risk!
