Buddy's, home of Detroit’s original Sicilian square pizza, opens its 11th location in Novi, Michigan

Buddy’s Pizza, the home of Detroit’s original square Sicilian-style pizza has become more accessible than ever for Oakland County residents – just in time for National Pizza Month.

The 68-year-old family-owned restaurant business originated in Detroit, kick-started an expansion last fall and it continues as Buddy’s Pizza’s 11th location opened to the public on Oct. 23 at 44225 Twelve Mile Road, inside Novi’s Twelve Mile Crossing at Fountain Walk entertainment district.

On its first day, diners felt good about contributing to breast cancer research during Breast Cancer Awareness month as $2 from every pizza sold at the Novi Buddy’s Pizza location was donated to the Barbara Ann Karmanos Cancer Institute.

This initiative comes in addition to Buddy’s Pizza’s ongoing October partnership. Company-wide during October, Buddy’s Pizza donated a portion of proceeds from Leon & Lulu pizza sales to Karmanos and Buddy’s staff have the option to wear a special t-shirt and to donate to the cause, earning jeans casual days.

“We are so excited to open our newest location here in Novi,” said Robert Jacobs, Buddy’s Pizza president. “It means so much to us to do so during National Pizza Month and a time when we can enhance our commitment to the Karmanos Cancer Institute.

“I believe Buddy’s Pizza fans and friends will find that our new, Fountain Walk location maintains the same look and feel they have come to expect. From our proud Detroit roots to our dedication to quality products and personal service, we couldn’t wait to share a slice of Sicilian-style square pizza with our new neighbors here in Novi.”

Wesley Pikula, Buddy’s Pizza vice president of operations, could hardly wait to show the newest location to the public. The new location’s public opening followed private events and a community ribbon cutting ceremony. “This restaurant sets a higher bar,” he said. “The architectural elements will impress our regular visitors and our new fans. The party room is amazing.”

The Novi location caters to Buddy’s Pizza’s family-focused environment, while remaining easily accessible to visitors. “Our newest location is conveniently situated near freeways M-5, I-275, I-696 and I-96, and will provide guests from across the metro Detroit area easy access to the Buddy’s Pizza flavors they have come to know and love,” said Pikula.

“That was important to us as a family-owned and operated company. We have such a long history in the metro Detroit area and our customers have become just as much a part of our Buddy’s family as our own employees are.”

“We look forward to adding on to our family in Novi and to introducing newcomers to our signature square pizzas, homemade soups and antipasto salads.”

General Manager Matt Heckert has been responsible for opening the Novi location over the past year. Heckert has worked with Buddy’s Pizza to develop new menu items, train and hire staff members, and has managed locations in Warren, Livonia, Dearborn, Auburn Hills and Shelby Township.

“We began hiring for the Novi location during the summer months and are ready to bring the best of Buddy’s Pizza to Novi,” Heckert said.

Similar in style to the Shelby Township location that opened last fall, Buddy’s Pizza in Novi is an 8,000 square foot, full-service restaurant location. It will seat 200 patrons in a main dining room and feature an urban, retro-styled interior and exterior, a main lobby, an outdoor dining area, main bar, banquet room, carry-out area, modern restrooms and kitchen.

The Novi location was designed by Northville-based Martone Design Studio, and pays tribute to Buddy’s Detroit heritage with vintage Industrial deco design elements, reminiscent of the original Buddy’s Pizza on the corner of Six Mile Road and Conant Street in Detroit.

Located at 44225 Twelve Mile Road in Novi, it will be open for lunch and dinner, beginning Tuesday, Nov. 4.  Business hours can be found on the Facebook page. For more information, visit www.buddyspizza.com.

  1. Italian food is my weakness. I gained a few pounds because of this during quarantine. But another weakness of mine is the lack of willpower. I couldn't give up pizza and go to the gym or diet. My mother helped me. She brought me CBD oil - https://naturalwellnesscbdoil.com/brand-reviews/cbd-infusionz/ This is a great herbal sedative and it really helped me reduce my appetite. I spent three weeks on Keto and was almost back in shape.
