Holiday shows take
to the stage and ice, marking seasonal traditions across Ontario and Canada.
The curtain rises
for Mickey and company, Donny and Marie, Cinderella and
the National Ballet for performances throughout the holidays
and into the new year.

Feld
Entertainment’s Disney On Ice presents Treasure Trove, a skating spectacular,
in Toronto from Dec. 19-28 with 17 performances at the Rogers Centre.
“It’s a magical
medley of Disney tales in one jam-packed show on ice that commemorates the
legacy of Disney animated films,” said publicist Beth Merrick.
“Get tangled up in
Disney’s 50th animated feature with Rapunzel and Flynn and enter the worlds of
favourite Disney princesses Tiana, Cinderella, Jasmine, Ariel, Sleeping Beauty,
Belle, Mulan and – the one who started it all – Snow White.”
Then set sail with
Peter Pan, sassy Tinker Bell and cantankerous Captain Hook and his pirate pals
on an adventure beyond Never Land.
In the wilds of
Africa, there’s Simba, Nala, Pumbaa and Timon discovering the true meaning of
the Circle of Life.

Don’t be late for a
very important date with Alice and the Mad Hatter as they march with the Queen
of Hearts’ Army of Cards.
I can hear music
Disney Live! Mickey’s Music Festival visits
11 cities in its Canadian tour.
It has Mickey Mouse
and his band of friends, Minnie Mouse, Donald Duck and Goofy performing in a “music
mash-up of mega proportions.”
With more than 25
Disney characters, the audience is “transported to a new world of hip-hop
beats, dizzying acrobatics, flying carpets and magical transformations” with
Aladdin, Jasmine and Genie.
There are the greatest
hits from blockbuster movies Aladdin, the Little Mermaid and Disney/Pixar’s Toy
Story remixed to rock, pop, reggae, hip-hop, jazz and country.
Underwater is where
Ariel, Sebastian and their nautical pals groove to the reggae rhythm.

Children can stomp
to the beat as Woody, Buzz and Jessie teach them how to boogie rodeo-style.
After opening in
Regina and Saskatoon, the show is in Ottawa on Sunday (Dec. 14); Windsor, Dec.
20; Hamilton, Dec. 21; Montreal, Dec. 26-31; Kitchener, Jan. 2; Kingston, Jan.
3; London, Jan. 4; Oshawa, Jan. 8; and Toronto, Jan. 9-11.
On the ice
A post-holiday
treat is Disney On Ice’s Worlds of Fantasy for eight shows from Jan. 29-Feb. 1
at Budweiser Gardens in London.
The show features four
stories, showcasing characters from Disney/Pixar’s Cars and Toy Story 3, and Disney’s
Tinker Bell and the Little Mermaid.

There are high-speed
stunts as Lightning McQueen, Mater and the crew of from Cars race across the
ice.
Dive into the
Little Mermaid’s undersea kingdom and enter the mystical world of Pixie Hollow
with Tinker Bell and the Disney fairies as they reveal the magic that lies
within.
Then Buzz
Lightyear, Woody, Jessie and the Toy Story gang escape from the rambunctious
tots of Sunnyside Daycare and race for home.

On the playbill
Mirvish Productions
presents Donny and Marie Christmas at the Princess of Wales Theatre in Toronto,
now through Dec. 21.
In the holiday
tradition of “Osmond Family Christmas” TV specials, the brother-sister duo celebrates
the spirit of the season along with hits from their careers.
Cinderella, the
family musical, is on now through Jan. 4 at Mirvish’s Elgin Theatre, while the
Jersey Boys, about rock-and-roll’s Frankie Valli and the Four Seasons, runs
from Dec. 17-Jan. 4 at the Ed Mirvish Theatre in Toronto.
The parody Potted
Potter, all seven Harry Potter books in “70 hilarious minutes,” returns to

The Nutcracker, the
National Ballet of Canada’s version of E.T.A. Hoffmann’s Christmas tale, runs
from Dec. 13-Jan. 3 at the Four Seasons Centre for the Performing Arts in
Toronto.
