Ninth annual Stratford Kiwanis Garlic Festival details, 2015

                                                                          

 
Bigger and Better than Ever (News Release)


Stratford, ON – The 9th annual Stratford Kiwanis Garlic Festival promises to be bigger and better than ever as September 12th and 13th will be jam packed with double the presentations. There is a great lineup of entertainment, children’s attractions and of course the garlic and Ontario artisan market.  The festival offers demonstrations, competitions and workshops so that visitors can learn how to grow and enjoy garlic there and at home.


Garlic growers, chefs and cooks of all kinds and people who love garlic will flock to this annual event to celebrate garlic, the most delectable of all garden crops. Visitors will enjoy tasting garlic spreads, garlic sausage and many other products that are made with or are designed to accompany garlic’s unique flavour.



The festival is a family-friendly event.

Children will delight by the kids cooking classes, garlic planting, face painting, and crafts. Bogle the Clown’s will keep kids entertained on Saturday with his Magic Show and balloon sculptures.  Sunday kids of all ages will be captivated by the Birds of Prey high flying demonstrations. 

 

Every growing Festival has contests.  Back by popular demand each morning inside the cooking tent chefs will compete head to head using garlic and a secret ingredient to determine the best Garlic Chef.  You requested it so we are making it happen – new this year audience members will have the chance to win one of 8 spaces on the judging panel.  Keep an eye out on our Facebook page to win one of those spaces, plus arrive at 9am each day to enter our raffle to become a judge.  


New this year, are an array of garlic competitions including the Ontario Garlic Growers Grand Championship, Garlic Braiding Competition, Garlic Gadget and the Garlic Tasting Competition.  The public is invited to purchase one of fifty tickets on our website to become judges for this tasty competition which offers education on why garlic strains taste so differently along with judging the best preserves, baking, dips and more. 


The Garlic Braiding Workshop is always a favourite activity, to which tickets may be purchased in advance on our website www.stratfordgarlicfestival.com . Due to popular demand at last years festival, we have added braiding workshops on both Saturday and Sunday.


Sit and relax with a glass of wine from Henry of Pelham or a beer from Railway City Brewery while enjoying a great line up of musical acts sure to entertain, including:  The 17 piece Festival City Big Band, Michael Kelly Cavan, providing heartwarming and foot-tapping entertainment, singer/songwriters Ali Matthews & Rick Francis, The Upside of Maybe, a 6-piece Canadian roots-rock band, The Dykehoppers Band, a 15-piece Big Band, Yeager, that brings energy and enjoyment to every crowd they play, plus many more.


The Old Stratford Fairgrounds located at 20 Glastonbury Drive in Stratford will play host to this event for the 9th time. Parking will be available on-site, as well as at the Rotary Complex located nearby at 353 McCarthy Road, Stratford.


Proceeds from the festival go to support Kiwanis Club of Stratford. Kiwanis Projects include the building of a new playground at Anne Hathaway Park, Kiwanis Centre, Kiwanis Festival of the Performing Arts, Kiwanis-CJCS Christmas Baskets, The Aktion Club for adults with disabilities and the elimination of I.D.D. and Maternal and Neonatal Tetanus in developing countries.
