History, fireworks, boat tour on tap to celebrate Canada’s 149th birthday
NIAGARA-ON-THE-LAKE, Ont. (June 24, 2016) – Niagara has everything visitors need to celebrate Canada’s upcoming 149th birthday in style and kick off summer at the same time.
Families looking to make the most of the July 1st long weekend can find a mix of history, fantastic scenery, great accommodations and truly Canadian activities.

Here are a few truly Canadian ideas for visitors to make the most of Canada Day in Niagara:
· Join the party at Fort George National Historic Site
in Niagara-on-the-Lake. The fort, which helped turn the tide of the War
of 1812, will open its doors for free on July 1. The festivities start
with a pancake breakfast at nearby Simcoe Park, a parade lead by the 41st
Regiment Fife and Drum Corps that will lead a giant birthday cake
through Niagara-on-the-Lake’s Old town and a night of entertainment at
Fort George, including a BBQ dinner, musical performances and a
fireworks show.
· Visit Queenston Heights Park
to enjoy a Canada Day picnic or a hike along one of the park’s many
trails. You can also enjoy for a self-guided tour of the Battle of
Queenston Heights, where Major-General Isaac Brock, Commander-in-Chief
of British forces in Upper Canada, died On October 13, 1812, shortly
before dawn. You can climb the 235 steps inside the 56-metre tall
monument to Brock for a stunning view of the Niagara Gorge.
· For those who want to really experience the power and the majesty of the Niagara River, Whirlpool Jet Boat Tours
