Nuit Blanche set to transform Toronto overnight with art

   The 11th edition of Nuit Blanche Toronto is on Oct. 1 (2016) and some of the program highlights will be extended throughout Thanksgiving weekend along with travel packages.

   Nuit Blanche Toronto will transform the city from sunset to sunrise with nearly 90 art projects from more than 300 local, national and international artists.

Inside Out

   The event will run from sunset (officially 6:58 p.m.) on Saturday to sunrise (7 a.m.) the next morning.

   The all-night celebration of contemporary art features four distinct exhibitions located at four sites:

• "OBLIVION" at Nathan Philips Square and inside Toronto City Hall

• "Militant Nostalgia" stretching along John Street and McCaul Street between Dundas Street and Front Street

• "And the Transformation Reveals" spread along Bay Street from Dundas Street to Front Street, and 

Zero Hour

• "Facing the Sky" along the waterfront between Bay Street and Harbourfront Centre.

The arts community-produced Independent Projects are extended throughout the city. Event information is available at nbto.com

Nuit Blanche Toronto is the city's annual all-night celebration of contemporary art, produced by the City of Toronto in collaboration with Toronto’s arts community.

Extended Projects:

   Three monumental artworks that will be presented at Nathan Phillips Square (at Toronto City Hall) as part of the exhibition OBLIVION curated by two of Canada's best, Michael Prokopow and Janine Marchessault. Details about the projects are listed below. 

-        Ocean, from Canadian architect, Philip Beesley. A constantly-changing canopy of recycled textiles inducing vast unstable forces where brilliant bursts of light alternate with dark surging movements and intense waves of hypnotic sound.

-        Death of the Sun, by award-winning Director X. An immersive experience where the observer will witness a massive sculpture of the sun as it progresses through its life cycle.

-        PNEUMA, by film director Floria Sigismondi. A site-specific installation utilizing the Freedom Arches of Nathan Phillips Square as a frame for a two-sided water screen with shimmering reflections and imagery thrown in constant flux, transforming reality, mimicking our ever-changing consciousness and connection to identity/self.
