Bingemans celebrates 50th anniversary of Oktoberfest in Kitchener-Waterloo

KITCHENER, Ont. — Dust off your lederhosen and dirndls and grab your Tyrolean hats. Oktoberfest is back.

 

As the biggest Bavarian festival this side of Munich, Oktoberfest is a beloved autumn tradition in Kitchener — and Bingemans has been a part of the experience since 1968. Home to the largest festhalle, Kool Haus, Bingemans is looking to outdo themselves once again for the 2018 celebrations.

 

“Over the years we’ve been listening to what our guests want and are aiming to provide the best experience for everyone,” says Mark Bingeman, President of Bingemans. “This includes making our tents bigger, adding another tent and expanding our beer selections. We’re really excited about this year’s Oktoberfest events.”

 

Here are some tips to help make the best of your Oktoberfest experience:

 

·         Learn how to prost

A big part of Oktoberfest is beer and steins (or cans) will be full throughout the event. As they did last year, Bingemans will be featuring local craft breweries along with traditional German beer. Waterloo Brewing, Canada’s first craft brewer, will be serving their beers, including a special 50^th anniversary Festbier. Two craft breweries will be chosen from eight possibilities through an online vote and will be the feature craft brews at the events. But it wouldn’t be a true Oktoberfest event without German beer. Guests will have the opportunity to try Hacker-Pschorr and Paulaner brews as well.

·         Plan Ahead

There will be alcoholic drinks flowing all night, so make sure you have a ride home planned. Use public transit, cabs, ride sharing apps or a designated driver. Anyone who needs to leave a vehicle overnight is welcome to do so in their free parking lot. You can alsobook a camping package to stay right at Bingemans or check out hotels in the area that are only a few minutes away.

·         Come Hungry

There will be an abundance of Bavarian food choices for guests to enjoy. The Sausage Shoppe is the place to grab a sausage on a bun while the Schnitzel Haus offers pigtail mac & cheese balls, schnitzel, cabbage rolls and apple strudel. Another option is to get a ticket for Bingemans’ annual Bavarian Feast. Guests will enjoy traditional Oktoberfest food, exclusive entertainment and express access to the festhalles.

·         Treat Yourself

Up your Oktoberfest game and buy tickets for one of the two VIP lounges being offered this year. The Jägermeister Lounge offers a spacious and comfortable lounge area for you and up to five friends, VIP entry into Oktoberfest Kool Haus, cocktail service and your very own bottle of Jägermeister to share. The Wunderbar Lounge gives guests express VIP entry into Kool Haus, full access to private lounge experience, access to private bars and a private VIP washroom all night.

·         Set your Alarm Clock 

Every year CHYM 96.7, 570 News and COUNTRY 106.7 joins Bingemans for an Oktoberfest family tradition – the free Oktoberfest Family Breakfast. From 7:30 a.m. – 11:00 a.m. on Saturday, October 6^th, guests can indulge in free pancakes and sausages.

Oktoberfest will once again be held over two weekends with events on Friday, October 5^th, Saturday, October 6^th, Friday, October 12^th and Saturday, October 13^th. Tickets can be purchased online and will give guests guaranteed admission into both Kool Haus and Paulaner Haus until 8 p.m.
