Now accepting submissions for the 2019 TD Discovery Series special projects

THE TD DISCOVERY SERIES SPECIAL PROJECTS RETURNS FOR ITS NINTH YEAR Now Accepting Submissions for Eligible Projects

TORONTO - Designed to encourage the creation, development and presentation of special projects by local jazz musicians, the TD Discovery Series Special Projects is now accepting submissions until November 30, 2018. Entering its ninth year, the initiative provides successful applicants with marketing and public relations support, including a bursary, from Toronto Downtown Jazz (TDJ).

"Over the past nine years the Special Projects initiative has supported consistently outstanding concerts - some of the city's most interesting, creative and exciting jazz presentations - I look forward to seeing what this year's submissions brings," states Artistic Director, Josh Grossman.

"Many artists leading Special Projects end up receiving invitations to perform at the annual TD Toronto Jazz Festival - so the Special Projects initiative is an excellent opportunity to showcase new work but can also provide an opportunity to build a more meaningful relationship with the Festival."

Determined by a juried process, this year-round initiative will bring fresh jazz to the forefront of the city's music scene allowing recipients to showcase their work and bring original programming to the stage. Designed by Toronto Downtown Jazz, producers of the TD Toronto Jazz Festival, with the generous support of TD Bank Group, Special Projects perks include a bursary to offset marketing expenses, dedicated press releases, online presence and even a photo shoot.

Eligible projects must take place between January 15 and April 30, 2019 and must fall outside the usual scope of an artist's work. Individual musicians and ensembles of any size are encouraged to apply; however, leaders must be active members of the Toronto jazz scene.
