There will be many “green thumbs” filling Enercare
Centre at Exhibition Place in Toronto for a taste of spring at Canada Blooms.

The expansive
annual garden gala from March 13 to 22 has been “inspiring visitors with its
creative floral designs, unique seminars, breathtaking gardens and expert
advice” for 24 years, publicist Courtney De Caire said.
Canada Blooms was
founded by Landscape Ontario and the Garden Club of Toronto and transforms the
Enercare Centre into a colourful, idyllic space for guests to explore, she
added.
This year,
designers and landscapers are taking their creations to “new heights,” working
within the theme Birds of a Feather.
“We thought that it
would be fun to let our designers get creative and ‘spread their wings’ with
this year’s theme,” said Terry Caddo, Canada Blooms executive director.

As thousands of
people flock to the show, they will experience lush gardens and beautiful
floral designs.
Co-located with the
National Home Show, it has the largest feature garden in the show’s history.
It’s the
Bienenstock natural playground, a “full sensory experience” with nature and accessible
to everyone.
It is a fully
interactive and barrier-free play space providing an accessible natural
environment for people of all ages with special needs to hear the birds and take
in the natural surroundings.

Garden designers
and floral artists are incorporating birds, feathers, bird baths and more with
some focusing on similarities between people, plants and insects.
Canada Blooms
Flower of the Year is the Sincerity dahlia from Syngenta Flowers North America.
It is “big, bold
and beautiful,” with many early blooms of large pink and white bi-colour
flowers with a touch of yellow at their centre.
There will be about
500 of the flowers in gardens and featured areas at Canada Blooms this spring.

Falling during the
March school break, Canada Blooms hosts creative garden workshops for children.

They can learn and
create pieces of art using garden-inspired crafts at a series of educational
workshops and demonstrations for ages seven to 10.
“We want our young
visitors to be able to get their hands dirty and learn all about birds and seed
planting from experienced master gardeners,” said garden pro Mark Cullen.
Activities include
learning how to make a bird’s nest and backyard bird feeder, creating a succulent
garden, planting methods to attract birds, growing a Chia grass bird and
learning all about owls.
There will also be
a treasure hunt for kids 12 and younger to find various types of trees from a

Just in time for
the March Break is Disney On Ice skating into Hamilton with Worlds of Enchantment.
“Rev up for
non-stop fun with four favourite Disney stories, said publicist Beth Merrick.
It happens at
FirstOntario Centre March 18 to 22 for 10 performances by Feld Entertainment,
Inc.
Live on ice are Lightning
McQueen, Mater and the crew of Disney and Pixar Cars performing high-speed
stunts and racing around.
There’s Ariel and
the underwater kingdom of Disney’s the Little Mermaid.

Buzz Lightyear,
Woody, Jessie and other favourites from Disney and Pixar Toy Story 3 try to escape
from Sunnyside Daycare.
Then enter the
