Find inspiration in the model cottage at the Fall Cottage Life Show

Mississauga

Toronto, Ontario:  September 26, 2012:  For the first time in the twenty-year history of the Cottage Life Shows, a fully-finished and decorated model cottage will be presented at the Fall Cottage Life Show, October 26-28, 2012 at the International Centre, Mississauga, Ontario.

Custom designed and built by Canada Builds, a CSA and Tarion approved builder located in Lindsay, Ontario, the cottage is 1,000 sq. ft. and features two bedrooms and two bathrooms. The open kitchen and living room are perfect for entertaining family and friends, and there are cottage inspired touches throughout, right down to the tiled dog-wash station inside the back door.

“Cottages come in all shapes and sizes,” says Al Zikovitz, publisher of Cottage Life magazine, and producer of the Cottage Life Shows.  “We know our readers and show-goers are looking for smart designs that are compact, efficient, cost effective and still good looking.  This model cottage is a real inspiration for someone thinking about how to get into owning a cottage or replacing or renovating an existing structure.”

Canada Builds, the company behind the project, is 100% Canadian owned. They specialize in custom home and cottage designs that are built in a controlled environment. After rigorous testing and inspections, the units are then shipped to the building site and married together on a permanent foundation. Basements are installed in about 80% of their projects, essentially doubling the living space, which comes in very handy on those busy weekends when the whole family comes to visit.

“Because the units are built inside and then shipped to the building site, the end result is a dry, square, moisture-free structure,” says Dion Gemmiti, Vice-President and General Manager of Canada Builds. “There are fewer delays due to the elements, and a cottager can go from design to installation in about six weeks.”

The costs of a modular cottage are very appealing – about $135 per square foot for a completely finished cottage. That includes all flooring, windows, doors, cabinetry, appliances, and fixtures. And naturally all the designs and finishes can be customized as a country home, chalet, or cottage, and installed anywhere in Ontario.

Styled by Rebecca Purdy, the model cottage will showcase furnishings and décor items from the exhibitors at the Fall Cottage Life Show. Rebecca Purdy is a lifelong cottager and the stylist on HGTV’s shows including Disaster DIY: Cottage Edition, House of Bryan and Leave It To Bryan. The model cottage is set in a little piece of cottage country, with a natural stone and evergreen garden installed by Cornerstone Landscaping.

Produced by the publishers of Cottage Life magazine, the Fall Cottage Life Show features more than 200 exhibitors dedicated to cottage and country home renovations, construction, building products, and design and architectural services. Then there’s all the fun stuff like boats, water toys, arts and décor, food, furnishings for indoors and out, and gift ideas for every cottager on your list.

Other feature areas include the Cottage Kitchen with live cooking demonstrations,
the Main Stage with ongoing seminars and panel presentations, and the Great Outdoors where you can meet turtles, snakes, birds, and explore Ontario’s cottage country by snowmobile, dogsled, snowkiting or snowshoes.

Whether you are on a lake or in the hills, the show is geared towards anyone who owns or dreams of owning a cottage, chalet, country home, hobby farm or rural retreat.
