War Horse: Toronto's longest-running drama extended to Nov. 4 at Princess of Wales Theatre

(News Release)

WAR HORSE is now Toronto's longest-running professional drama of all time. Performances began February 2, 2012, at the Princess of Wales Theatre and the show has since played 232 performances.

The show's immense popularity has prompted an extension.  WAR HORSE will now play until November 4, 2012 at Toronto's Princess of Wales Theatre.  The new block of tickets is now available for sale through TicketKing (416-872-1212 or www.mirvish.com).

"WAR HORSE is a phenomenon," says David Mirvish. "In the commercial theatre, musicals are king. They always run the longest. WAR HORSE, the compelling and heart-warming tale of family, loyalty and love, has broken the commercial theatre's golden rule: it is drama that has run as long as most popular musicals in Toronto -- in fact, longer than many.

"This summer, we were delighted that WAR HORSE led the charge in attracting visitors to our city. Having heard from family and friends about the power of this show, people travelled from across Canada to attend. We also hosted many American visitors, which is especially gratifying, as they have been missed during the last few summers. But the greatest news was the many international visitors who attended WAR HORSE. At each performance you could hear many different languages spoken.

"So we are happy to extend the show's run in Toronto until November 4th. We know that there are many more people who have still to see this show and we look forward to welcoming them this fall at the Princess of Wales Theatre.

"WAR HORSE is that unique show that offers something for everyone: the early teenagers who perhaps don't know enough about the Great War and learn about it through Albert's journey from childhood to young adulthood during this great conflict; the animal lovers who appreciate the story's exploration of the bond between humans and animals; the spectacle-goers who find the epic scale and scope of the production unmatched; the older theatregoers who can reminisce about seminal events that have shaped our current society; and anyone who is looking for superb entertainment served with great beauty, artistry and honest emotion.

"We are very proud of this show and the all-Canadian cast that has brought it to life in Toronto."

WAR HORSE is a National Theatre of Great Britain production and is produced in Toronto by The National Theatre of Great Britain, Bob Boyet/Tim Levy, David Mirvish and National Angels.

The production is based on a novel by Michael Morpurgo, adapted by Nick Stafford in association with Handspring Puppet Company.

The original direction is by Marianne Elliott and Tom Morris; with sets, costumes and drawings by Rae Smith; puppetry design, fabrication and direction by Adrian Kohler with Basil Jones for Handspring Puppet Company; and lighting by Paul Constable.

WAR HORSE in Toronto is sponsored by the National Bank of Canada.
