This
year’s line-up for the Port Dover Roots Music Festival on Saturday, August 17th 2013 has something
for everyone.
The Festival, sponsored by the Port Dover Lions Club,
welcomes one of Canada’s top folk-rock bands, The Great Lake Swimmers.
This award winning band from Toronto was nominated for a Juno this year
in the Roots Music category. Their recently released album, “New Wild
Everywhere," has received exceptional reviews.
Paste Magazine describes
it as a “treat of melodic proportions” and Magnet says, “Its catchy
melodies and soothing vocals both calm and entice”.
Also
appearing at the Festival are The Sadies. Two of the Sadies are Travis
Good and Dallas Good. Dallas and Travis are the sons of Bruce Good and
nephews of Brian and Larry Good, members of the Canadian country group,
The Good Brothers, who appeared at last year’s Festival. This band has
collaborated with some of Canada’s biggest names including Randy
Bachman, Neil Young, and Garth Hudson.
Back
by popular demand is Tia McGraff and the Radical Road Band. Tia is a
local favourite and wowed everyone at last year’s Festival with songs
from her award winning album “Diversity”.
New
to the Festival but no stranger to local music fans is Duane Rutter.
Duane is one of the finest singer-songwriters in this area and music
lovers should look forward to hearing this exceptional musician perform
his original songs.
Also
appearing at the Festival are NorFolk a local group of musicians who
impressed everyone at last year’s Festival with their lively set of
Celtic songs and Birdtown from Simcoe, who play a mix of bluegrass,
Celtic and East Coast Canadian tunes.
The
Festival is at Silver Lake Park in Port Dover and the music will start
at 3 p.m. Tickets are $25 and can be purchased in Simcoe at the Erie
Music Store or Coldwell Banker Real Estate. In Port Dover, tickets can
be purchased at Stetson’s Jewellers, The Erie Beach Hotel, and The Port
Dover Maple Leaf. Online tickets can be purchased at Ticketscene. The
venue will be licensed with wines from local South Coast wineries and
local beer from Picards’ brewery. Local food vendors will also tempt
your taste buds.
The Festival complements the Summer Festival Weekend in Port Dover, with Art in the Park, and local merchant sidewalk sale days.
