HarbourKIDS Skating Festival presented by RBC Play Hockey

(News Release)

February 16-17, 2014. 11 a.m.-5 p.m.

TORONTO, ON–January 30, 2014 – How better to deal with the extreme cold of Winter 2014?

At Harbourfront Centre, we celebrate the polar vortex – we say bundle up the family in scarves and toques and head for HarbourKIDS Skating Festival, presented by RBC Play Hockey, Sunday, February 16- Monday, February 17, 11 a.m. to 5 p.m.

The Natrel Rink, hosted by comedian Megan Fraser, will be buzzing with skating activities, performances, ice sculptures and cool canvasses. When you’ve had enough of the chill, head indoors for dance workshops, a hip theatre production, crafts, science experiments and lots more.   Make it a Family Day weekend of skating and creating.

HarbourKIDS Family Skating Festival, presented by RBC Play Hockey is a two-day free-for-all, featuring Le Patin Libre performing impromptu, interactive figure skating ice shows. Ice Culture Inc. will demonstrate their amazing ice carving skills; while kids get creative painting large ice canvasses.

New and/or little skaters will love the Natrel Slo-Skate Zone – an area all their own to hone their skills.
On Monday, meet former NHL star, Wendel Clark who will be signing autographs from 11:30 a.m. to 1:30 p.m.!  Then get your photo taken on an Olympic podium from 11 a.m. to 5 p.m., and have it e-mailed to you to impress your friends. All courtesy of RBC Play Hockey.

Bust a few moves at Street Dance Workshops with Ofilio Portillo; meet RAPunzel in an updated theatre production of the classic fairytale; and power up with Brennan and Dave as they scramble through a musical adventure in the Music with Bite presentation of Victory Quest.

Let'’s Talk Science will show us how to freeze a bubble, make slime and lasso an ice cube. Arts for Children and Youth takes hula hoop weaving to a whole new level, creates snow creature masks and teaches us how to do a winter dance.  And Harbourfront Centre’s School Visits programme will display art produced by students that will inspire you to greatness.

What better way to warm up frosty hands than by making sock snowmen and marshmallow snowflakes with Wise Daughters Craft Market; or building a LEGO snow castle and the perfect ski slope.

For more fun, inspiration and creativity than you could ever find on a sleigh ride, HarbourKIDS: Family Skating Festival, presented by RBC Play Hockey serves up two full days of skates-on, hands-and-feet-on artistic expression, imagination and accomplishment…and it’s all FREE!

Kids know, as do their parents in tow, that HarbourKIDS programming is designed for them and is more fun and satisfying than anything else they’ll ever do. They’ve told us so, and how to make it grow, and so it gets bigger and better with each installment.  HarbourKIDS Family Skating Festival, presented by RBC is for kids of all ages – a banquet of contemporary arts and culture, served up with large dollops of can-do’ism.  Bundle up the family. Take transit, walk or drive. Just get here for the time of your life.
