Discovery Harbour and Sainte-Marie among the
Hurons will celebrate Canada Day on Sunday July 1st with fun
activities for the entire family.
At both sites, complimentary Canada Day cake will be served, and
costumed staff will lead visitors with an enthusiastic singing of O Canada over
the day. Staff will hand out Canadian
Flag pins and other goodies, and visitors can also take part in a Canada Day
quiz, and colour Canada Day themed pictures.
A fun and interactive day is planned at Discovery Harbour. Outdoor chess and croquet will be offered
near the Officers’ Quarters, and guests will be invited to share what they love
about Canada
in the site’s North Visitor Centre. The War on The Lakes art collection will be
also be on display.
At Sainte-Marie, the foyer will be decorated with special Canada Day
banners welcoming visitors in 12 languages.
Heritage activities on the historic site will be presented with a Canada
Day twist. The on-site candle making
activity will use red wax, and families can try their hand at lacrosse, Canada’s
official national summer sport. A “Seek and Find” game will also be offered,
allowing visitors to search out different locations at Sainte-Marie where they
will be rewarded with special Canada Day treats.
