How to Enjoy Three Days of Free Family Entertainment
 
OTTAWA, June 21, 2012 – The Tim Hortons Ottawa Dragon Boat
Festival(THODBF), the largest dragon boat festival in
North America is celebrating its biggest year ever from
June 22 – 24 at Mooney’s Bay Park. Here’s an insider’s guide
to take advantage of three days of free family entertainment
and get the most out of the Festival.
The party begins on Friday, June 22 at 5:00 p.m. as the
festival kicks-off with free concerts featuring Spirit of
the West, Paper Lions and Whale Tooth in addition to Pan
Passion who will be bringing the
new beach side tiki bar to life.
 
The RCAF Air Command Pipes and Drums will also be on hand to lead the
Parade of Champions which consists of teams and charities into the
main tent to participate in the Opening Ceremony. Preceding the
Charity Challenge Cup Race.

The Tim Hortons Children’s Area Family Fun Stage has free
entertainment all day on Saturday and Sunday including A Company of
Fools, Little Ray’s Reptile Zoo, Lil John, Paddling Puppeteers, Chris
Pilsworth, The Cow Guys, The Manipulators,  Radical Science and The
Great Balanzo. Be sure to check out the areal show of the Craz-E-Crew
BMX stunt team, a new addition to the Festival entertainment.
 
To get to the THODBF, hop on the OC Transpo free shuttle service
running between downtown and Mooney’s Bay. Off-site parking is
available at the Canada Post Building and Carleton University with a
short walk or shuttle to the festival site. Paddlers and spectators
are encouraged to bike to the festival site and take advantage of the
secure bike parking provided by the Ottawa Citizen.
Don’t forget your sunscreen, your water bottle to refill at the free
Hydration Station and your appetite to experience many of the local
treats in the vendors and exhibitors area.
The action doesn’t stop on Sunday, June 24, with racing continuing
throughout the day. The Festival wraps-up with the closing ceremony
featuring the Oto-Wa Taiko Japanese Drummers. For a full list of free

About the Tim Hortons Ottawa Dragon Boat Festival
The Tim Hortons Ottawa Dragon Boat Festival is a community based,
not-for-profit event that began in 1993 as a small one day event that
has now grown into a three day celebration of the arts, sports,
culture and heritage. Currently in its 19th year the festival is
recognized as North America's largest dragon boating event with 204
teams in corporate, community and competitive categories. For the
first time in its history the festival will extend programming on each
day of the event introducing various new components including a new
Friday night opening ceremony, new Parade of Champions, an additional
day of racing, brand new Friday and Saturday late night headline
events. The festival offers FREE admission to multiple stages with
world class entertainment, amusement attractions, extreme sports
demonstrations, a variety of artisans, exhibitors, delicious culinary
treats, main tent beer garden, a new beach side bar, endless family
fun with the Tim Hortons Children’s Area and non-stop racing.
