Steam Whistle Brewery tour brings visitors closer to the action

MEDIA RELEASE

(Toronto, ON) – Billed as one of Toronto’s top tourist attractions, Steam Whistle Brewing, an independent brewery located in Toronto’s historic Roundhouse, brings visitors first-hand views of how they craft their Bohemian-style Pilsner from catwalks above the entire brewery operations.

The ‘Willy Wonka-esque” tour offers beer lovers the chance to meet The Good Beer Folks, hear the story of the brewery’s founding, taste beer fresh from the bottling line, all the while learning how all natural ingredients and European traditions combine to make this award-winning Pilsner.

Since the brewery opened its doors in 2000, brewery tours have been offered daily sharing the story of the brewery’s founding and the rail history of the building they occupy, the CP Rail John St. Roundhouse. Visitors are greeted by friendly and knowledgeable staff offering complimentary samples of Steam Whistle Pilsner, a 3-time gold winner at the Ontario Brewing Awards.

The half-hour tour moves on catwalks above the operations. Visitors can take in the aromatic smells of the brewhouse; experience the whirling/whistling machinery of the bottle shop and canning line; and even sound off the working steam whistle in the factory or the whistle/horn on a locomotive outside on the brewery’s patio, part of Roundhouse Park’s building rail museum display.

On weekdays the tour route includes a walk through the company offices with a chance to chat with the brewery co-founders and other staff. The brewery’s many environmental initiatives are highlighted on the tour, and the guides welcome questions. The tour ends in the brewery’s mezzanine level tasting room, where visitors are lead through a beer appreciation lesson:  how to best store and serve beer; what to look for visually, aromatically, and when tasting.

TripAdvisor.com, the world’s largest traveller review site, recommends Steam Whistle Brewing as one of the top tourist attractions in Toronto, and Yelp.ca gives Steam Whistle a stars_map rating. Reviews commonly report “Friendly and fun staff”, “Delicious beer”, “really interesting”, and “great value”.

The basic tour costs $10 per person (including 2 complimentary samples and either a souvenir whistle or pint glass) and goes up from there depending on souvenir options. Steam Whistle Brewing is open 363 days a year (closed only Christmas & New Year’s Day) with tours running every 30 minutes beginning at 1pm and ending at 5pm daily. http://www.steamwhistle.ca/tour/tourInfo.php

Tasting Notes for Steam Whistle Pilsner
Steam Whistle Pilsner offers the style and flavour of the great Pilsners of Europe, yet is brewed fresh locally at their independent, Canadian Brewery. Crafted under the watchful eye of their Czech-born Brewmaster, this golden-coloured Bohemian Pilsner is characterized by a floral hop aroma, sweet graininess with distinctive grassy notes, and balanced by a clean, crisp finish and pleasant lingering bitterness. When pouring this refreshing lager, expect soft, rising foam and a smooth drinking experience. Best stored and served 4-8 degrees Celsius.
