Vivid palette of colours across Ontario marks the arrival of fall

With the onset of fall, Ontario’s forests are taking on a vivid palette of colours that are more slowly progressing this year.

The display of vibrant reds, oranges, yellows and golds are putting on an extended show due to ideal weather conditions with lots of sunshine.

This makes the “pockets of colour brighter and showier against the lush green countryside,” say the “colour experts” at Ontario Tourism.

It’s an amazing transformation that occurs in just 14 per cent of the world’s forests, says forestry ecologist Charles Nock of the Universite du Quebec at Montreal.

Forests famous for their colours include southern Ontario and Quebec, Alberta, Nova Scotia, New Brunswick, northeastern United States, Japan and Korea.

Colour has advanced the most in Algonquin Park at 80-89 per cent, according to Ontario Parks’ midweek update.

It is also vibrant through the higher areas of north Haliburton and Muskoka and in the Parry Sound district with 40-60 per cent change, Ontario Tourism reports.

ROM presents North American premiere of 49th annual competition of world’s best wildlife photographers

(Toronto, Ontario – September 26, 2013) The Royal Ontario Museum (ROM) presents the Canadian debut of the Wildlife Photographer of the Year (WPY) exhibition, which, in the United Kingdom, is one of the Natural History Museum’s (NHM) most successful and longest-running exhibitions.

Based on a photography competition originating 49 years ago, the exhibition is displayed in the ROM’s Level 3, Centre Block, from November 23, 2013 to March 23, 2014. BBC Worldwide and the NHM have partnered to create this internationally recognized competition, celebrating nature and wildlife through the most prestigious and surprising photography of its kind.

Hordes of zombies will chase participants trying to grab flags hanging from their belts.

Once all of the flags, representing the runner’s souls, are gone the runner has lost the fight but can still complete the race.

William Shatner to receive Legacy Award from Stratford Festival

He did anyway – unbeknownst to the band or the audience!

The Result? A magically spontaneous set played entirely without the benefit of a safety net, typical of any night with Rant Maggie Rant.

In perfect keeping with the blank look of stunned surprise on the band’s faces when they learned of the sneaky deed, their artwork has been left similarly blank—the group’s name is all that adorns it.

As of today at 1pm, Patrons have the opportunity to obtain one free ticket to any event and to purchase additional tickets at the Supporter ticket price before tickets go on sale to the general public on September 17, 2013. Supporters have access to one ticket per event at the discounted Supporter price.

The International Festival of Authors, which runs from October 24 to November 3, 2013 and is celebrating its 34^th year, is delighted to announce that an additional 80 names have been added to the line-up of 62 authors announced in June.

Beatles fans will have much to celebrate when the 7th annual Orillia Beatles Celebration returns for two jam-packed days honouring the Fab Four in downtown Orillia.

As usual the entire downtown will be closed to allow for vendors, buskers, street performers food stations and tribute bands.

All vendors and participants are Beatles and/or British themed. There will be street dances Friday and Saturday night featuring top notch Beatles tribute bands and a beer garden.

The Argues, Aaron Reid, The Kings of Marigold, Across the Universe and The British Invasion are just some of the bands that will rock Orillia on Friday and Saturday night.
