Tango on Toronto’s waterfront every Thursday from June 23 – September 1, 2016

TORONTO, ON (May 31, 2016) – Harbourfront Centre invites Torontonians to get down and boogie on its outdoor dance floor for its sixth consecutive year of Dancing on the Pier.

Every Thursday, starting from June 23–September 1, dancers of all skill levels are welcome to move to sounds from around the globe performed by a live band on Toronto’s waterfront.

Featured styles include Flamenco/Rumba, Latin, Swing/Jazz, Electro-Swing, Celtic, Latin-Caribbean/Dancehall and more. Dance instructors will be available to give pointers, helping everyone get their groove on.

“Whether you sashay, shimmy or sway, Dancing on the Pier’s lineup is sure to get you on your feet, regardless of your level of experience,” says Diana Webley, Harbourfront Centre’s Senior Artistic Associate. “It’s an inclusive environment where everyone can feel free to let loose. Each Thursday is inspired by our upcoming summer festivals, with styles ranging from bolero to big band and everything in between. And best of all, it’s free.”

Dancing on the Pier Highlights:

  • June 23 – Bamboleo will perform the smooth sounds of boleros and the infectious rhythms of flamenco and rumba.
  • July 7 – Toronto All Star Big Band combines the influence of both vintage and modern swing with the electronic beats of new jazz, in a genre known as Electro-Swing.
  • July 21 – Stomp your feet to Old Man Flanagan’s Ghost for a night of Celtic tunes.
  • August 11 – Landó! Landó! will transport you with the exotic beats and Afro-Peruvian stylings of Lando and festejo.
