News Release
BARRIE – On Saturday, July 21 and Sunday, July 22, Horseshoe Resort will welcome adventure-seeking athletes participating in Warrior Dash,
a fierce five kilometre event that challenges athletes of all
abilities.
This year the revamped and recharged course will include 12
bigger and badder obstacles laid out over extreme terrain. After
completing the intense physical challenge, participants will celebrate
alongside friends and family with live music, food, beer and front row
seats to some of the most grueling obstacles.
Participants
this year will bound over fire, trudge through mud and scale new
obstacles and new heights. Five hundred Warriors will take off for the
Battleground every half hour starting at 9am on Saturday and 10am on
Sunday.
“Horseshoe
Resort is proud to host Ontario’s only Warrior Dash event for the
second year running,” says Sean Billing, General Manager of Horseshoe
Resort. “Warrior Dash is a great way to take advantage of the weather,
get fit, have fun and enjoy the myriad activities that Horseshoe has to
offer.”
Warrior Dash is proud to partner with St. Jude Children’s Research Hospital.
The St. Jude’s Warrior program encourages racers to raise funds for St.
Jude and Warrior Dash hopes to raise more than $3 million with the help
of the 2012 participants.
Warrior Dash is also aligned with GreenSneakers,
an organization with a unique environmentally-friendly fundraising
opportunity. With the help of Warriors, 500,000 pounds of tennis shoes
were donated and give a second chance at life in 2011.
“Warrior
Dash provides an incomparable experience for participants and
spectators,” said Alex Yount, Race Director. “The unique combination of
athleticism, live music, turkey legs and beer keeps Warriors coming back
for more.”
In
2011, more than 500,000 athletes selected Warrior Dash as an
alternative to the classic 5K race. Participants can expect new extremes
for 2012 as Warrior Dash returns with a vengeance, debuting more
innovative and exciting obstacles than ever before. The festival area
will be the scene of even greater celebrations with more food, drinks
and post-race activities.
Accommodations for Warrior Dash weekend at Horseshoe Resort start from $189/night. To book, visit www.horseshoeresort.com or call 1-866-383-6263.
