TORONTO – Soul legend Bettye LaVette has
just been added to the TD
Toronto Jazz Festival lineup, replacing Sharon Jones due
to health concerns. James Hunter Six will open.
With a career spanning 50
years that shows no signs of stopping, Bettye LaVette has done
it all. First introduced
to the blues in her parents’ living room at the age of six,
LaVette would go on to sign her first label deal with legendary
Motor City Records at 16.
Despite a series of bumps in her
career, including the debut album getting shelved, LaVette has
become a seasoned and masterful performer.
From a cult favourite
in soul circles to unsung pioneer in R&B, soul music,
LaVette’s emotionally charged lyrics and impeccable delivery
have captivated audiences worldwide. With an unmistakable rasp
to her voice, this powerhouse vocalist will deliver an
unforgettable show that is not to be missed.
Tickets for the original performance
will be honoured. Refunds are available until Thursday, June
27 at original point of purchase.
