FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE
(ORILLIA) The City of Orillia is pleased to announce the return of the Sunday Evening Band Concerts at the Rotary Aqua Theatre in Couchiching Beach Park for the summer. The Aqua theatre will be 55 years old this year with the Sunday evening concert series being a cultural mainstay of the community for just as long.
The series attracts big bands from across Ontario due to the wonderful acoustics of the Aqua Theatre and picturesque setting along the shore of Lake Couchiching. Again this year, the series dates were full in minutes due to the new on-line registration process!
“I have heard from the bandleaders and volunteers that it is the acoustics of the Aqua Theatre the draws the bands and the crowds to this particular series,” says Manager of Culture, Jacqueline Soczka.
“This year the series is starting a week early for the comfort of our patrons,” says Doug Sumner who coordinates the volunteers. Once again the Champlain Senior Service Club will serve as MC’s and ushers, collecting donations to help cover the cost of the bands.
Scheduled from 7pm – 9pm June 16 thru August 4, the times change August 11 – 25 from 6:30 pm – 8:30pm as the days get shorter. As usual if it rains, the concerts move to Orillia City Centre in the Council Chambers at the regular scheduled time.
The series begins this Sunday, June 16, with a performance by the Orillia Silver Band.
