Montréal, Canada, October 29, 2014 – VIA
Rail Canada (VIA Rail) goes international by establishing a partnership with
the passenger rail carrier alliance company AccesRail.
This partnership will extend VIA Rail’s distribution reach to over 120,000 travel agencies around the world through AccesRail’s airline connectivity to Global Distribution Systems, which enable the integration of rail services into travel agents’ booking systems.
AccesRail offers an easy way for passenger rail carriers to sell tickets through IATA certified travel agents, by using their established airline booking systems. The integration of rail suppliers in the Global Distribution Systems will improve VIA Rail’s international sales by encouraging inter-modal transport.
This partnership is aligned with VIA Rail’s inter-modal strategy, initiated in 2010, for which it won the 2013 AirRail Concept of the Year at the Global AirRail Awards ceremony in Frankfurt. VIA Rail’s inter-modal strategy makes transport more efficient by increasing interconnectivity with other passenger carriers and multiplying travel options for customers.
About VIA Rail Canada
As Canada's national rail passenger service, VIA Rail Canada (viarail.ca) and its 2,500 employees are mandated to provide safe, efficient and economical passenger transportation service, in both official languages of our country. VIA Rail operates intercity, regional and transcontinental trains linking 450 communities across Canada, and safely transports nearly four million passengers annually. The Corporation was awarded seven Safety Awards by the Railway Association of Canada over the last eight years, and was the recipient of the 2012 Agent's Choice Award voted by Canadian travel agents and presented by Baxter Travel Media. Since 2007, the Government of Canada has invested almost a billion dollars in VIA Rail. Read more about our transformation at www.viarail.ca/transformingVIA.

About AccesRail
AccesRail is an IATA strategic partner that offers railway companies the possibility of being present alongside airlines on the airline primary display of all the major GDSs worldwide. This renders their products visible to all IATA appointed travel agents and they can entertain seamless air-rail cooperation as their booking, ticketing and settlement processes become virtually identical as those currently used by airlines. Many railway companies use AccesRail and as a result are displayed on the GDSs under the IATA carrier code 9B. These include Renfe (Spanish Railways), Deutsche Bahn (German Railways), SJ (Swedish Railways), Thalys (French-Belgian-Dutch railway cooperation), First Great Western (UK railway franchise) and more. We wish to welcome VIA Rail Canada as the newest passenger carrier to join the group of railway companies that wish to be sold seamlessly on the airline primary display.
