Pop culture is about
to take over Niagara Falls as “The Hoff” and a star-studded lineup of iconic
vehicles highlight Comic Con.
And, for culture of
a different kind, there’s Heritage Weekend in Stratford, the Alice Munro
Festival of the Short Story in Huron County and doors are opening for sports
milestones in Oxford.

A headliner at
Comic Con Niagara Falls from June 5 to 7 is David Hasselhoff, actor, singer and
producer who played Michael Knight in TV’s Knight Rider and Mitch Buchannon in Baywatch.
He will be
accompanied by K.I.T.T. (Knight Industries Two Thousand), an “artificially
intelligent electronic computer module in the body of a highly advanced, very
mobile, robotic 1982 Pontiac Trans Am” featured in the show.
Also look for Dukes
of Hazzard pinup queen “Daisy Duke,” played by Catharine Bach with a replica of
the iconic General Lee car.

And “holy smokes
Batman,” the show includes the 1966 Batcopter and Batcyle from the TV series.
There’s also Mad
Max Interceptor, the iconic evil-looking black police car from the Mad
Max film series.
“We feature a star-studded
line up, cosplayers, memorabilia, movie screenings, workshops, comic books and
more,” said Chris Dabrowski, show manager.

Among the celebrities
will be Alfonso Ribeiro (Fresh Prince of Bel-Air); Billy Dee Williams (Star Wars);
Linda Blair (The Exorcist); Cassandra Peterson (Elvira); John de Lancie (Star
Trek); Manu Bennett (Arrow); Robert Davi and Joe Pantoliano (The Goonies
Fratelli Reunion); Scott Wilson (The Walking Dead); and wrestler the Iron
Sheik.
Joining the lineup
is Ryan Hurst known as Harry "Opie" Winston from FX TV’s Sons of
Anarchy.
New is the Falls
Horror Fest with exhibits, movie props, workshops, celebrities, costumes and
question sessions and 30 coin-operated 1980’s arcade games.
Comic book fans
will find an expanded offering with more than 85 featured artists and
independent publishers.

Remembering 1945
Stratford’s Heritage
Weekend, June 6 and 7, features Reflections of 1945, a commemoration of 70
years since the end of the Second World War.
Events will reflect
life at that time in Stratford and around the world.

“As well, the
Stratford Festival is presenting The Diary of Anne Frank and The Sound of
Music, both reflecting World War II themes,” said Cathy Rehberg of the Stratford Tourism
Alliance.
There will be a
Holocaust survivor photo exhibit, Perth County war brides exhibit, the Ladies of
the CNR dramatic vignette, Anne Frank exhibit and a Remembering 1945 concert
along with heritage walks, cycling tours and home tours.
The weekend
coincides with Doors Open Stratford and the opening of the Stratford-Perth
Archives on June 6 at 9:30 a.m.
The public
open-house event from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. includes city landmarks along with war

Sporty Oxford
Oxford County out
Woodstock way is celebrating its sports history at Doors Open events on May 30
from 10 a.m. to 5 p.m.
Visitors can find
out where the first recorded baseball game in North America was played and who
won the tug-of-war contest at the 1893 Chicago World Fair.
Learn about
where the World Crokinole Tournament is held annually and what basketball team
once formed the nucleus of Canada’s Olympic team.
There are 18
sites to tour to learn about a championship badminton club, a world-class
soccer facility as well as sailing, dragon boat racing, remote controlled

Huron County will
“celebrate the short-story form” in the landscape that inspired a Nobel
Laureate.
The Alice Munro
Festival of the Short Story from June 4 to 7 in Wingham features readings, book
signings, presentations and masterclasses with some of Canada’s most respected
authors and literary figures, said publicist Laurel Armstrong.
It will culminate
with a Jubilee Gala when short story awards will be presented.
Gala speaker will
be author Lisa Moore while there will also be readings in Clinton and Bayfield.
