Edwards Summer Music Series: Gardens of Song
Stratford, ON (July 4, 2016) – A brilliant blaze of Celtic colour will adorn the natural beauty of the Toronto Botanical Gardens (TBG) on July 14, 2016 when Canadian Celtic-FUSION band Rant Maggie Rant performs at the Edwards Summer Music Series: Gardens of Song. Concert time is 7:00 pm – rain or shine (indoors in event of extreme weather).
The open-air music series presents free evening concerts every Thursday from June through August 25, 2016. The
concerts take place in the courtyard beside the historic barn in
Edwards Gardens. General seating is available or visitors can select a
spot at the fully-licensed Garden Cafe patio which overlooks the concert venue. Or, bring your own chair.
Based in Stratford, Ontario, Rant Maggie Rant showcases the talents of Lindsay Schindler (fiddle, background vocals) who also performs with the acclaimed Ontario folk trio Trent Severn; Glen Dias (lead vocals, recorders, percussion); and Barry James Payne (guitars, harmonica, bouzouki, background vocals). Joining them will be guest musicians Steve Clark (bass), who hails from London, Ontario, as well as Toronto’s Daev Clysdale (Irish whistle, Irish flute and accordion) and London’s Rob Larose (percussion).
A joyful melting pot of sound, Rant Maggie Rant is loved by traditionalists
who enjoy their time-honoured style, while new Celtic music listeners
are drawn to the band's fusion of World influences of hand drumming and
Latin, Middle Eastern and African rhythms.
The
energetic ensemble has performed on Canada’s east and west coasts and
central USA, as well as more than 150 shows in almost every corner of
Ontario. Their
2015 Canadian concert dates included a sold-out performance at the
National Arts Centre in Ottawa, and performances at the Folk Alliance International Showcases in Kansas City, MO and the Northeast Regional Folk Alliance Conference in Kerhonkson, NY. In
2014, they performed at London's Home County Music Festival, where they
shared the stage with Ashley MacIsaac, The Bills and The Beauties;
Stratford’s Knox Church with internationally-renowned musician Loreena
McKennitt and Trent Severn, as well as the Windsor Symphony Orchestra.
While at the Toronto Botanical Gardens, visitors can take a free guided tour of the contemporary themed gardens spanning nearly four acres, departing from the main entrance at 6:00 pm or enjoy some dining at the organic farmers’ market from 2:00 – 7:00 pm. The TBG also offers a complete range of indoor and outdoor learning experiences for all ages.
