Celebrating critically-acclaimed new CD Run to Me
Stratford, ON – Back by popular demand, Samantha Martin & Delta Sugar return to Stratford’s Revival House at 8:00 pm on June 1, 2018, as the band celebrates the recent release of their new CD, entitled Run to Me, which is charting globally to rave reviews. Revival House rocked
on its foundations during the band’s 2017 performance. So, it is
fitting to bring the band back for another explosive show presented by String Bone Presents!
The 10 tracks on Run to Me, released under
Gypsy Soul Records and produced by Darcy Yates, reflect the remarkable
growth on Martin’s part as a songwriter. Written by Martin or in tandem
with Curtis Chaffey or Suzie Vinnick, the songs explore the full range
of the vicissitudes of love. “You’re the Love” and “Gotta Find It” tell
stories of desire backed by a rocking horn sections, while “Will We Ever
Learn” is all about those learn-your-lesson kind of love, set as a
slower Etta James-style ballad. Anyone who has ever run into an ‘ex’
will readily identify with “Over You.” The soulfulness in Samantha’s
voice and the way her songs are arranged feel like you are listening to a
beautiful blend of both old and new blues, while never compromising her
dynamic style.
Samantha Martin
has been building a roots/blues/gospel sound and team with Delta Sugar
since 2014. Although the concert focus will be on Martin as the front
woman, this band really is a team effort and powerful blend.
Accompanying Martin's powerful lead vocals and acoustic guitar are Sherie Marshall and Stacie Tabb (vocal harmonies), Mikey McCallum (electric guitar) and Dani Nash (drums). Together they pack more punch than “a stage full of amps and fearsome guitarists.”
Her debut album Send the Nightingale (2015),
earned the group four Maple Blues nominations in 2016, featured them on
CBC regularly, and earned her and her band spots on major Canadian
festivals and venues all across the country. In 2017, they were chosen
by a selected panel to represent Toronto at the International Blues
Challenge – an impressive resume for a group that is only on their
sophomore album. Next up for Samantha: two European tours scheduled for
2019.
Based out of Toronto,
soul-inspired, gospel, roots ‘n roll Samantha Martin is a five-time
Maple Blues Award nominee and in 2016 she was nominated for “Best Female
Vocalist” at the Maple Blues Awards presented by the Toronto Blues
Society.
“Samantha
Martin and Delta Sugar are one of the most powerful new artists to
emerge on the roots music scene in many a year,” says Rob Bowman, Grammy
Award-winning author of Soulsville U.S.A.: The Story of Stax Records.
“The vocal blend Delta Sugar produces is pure, unadulterated
gospel-tinged, neuron-tingling magic where the sum is even richer than
the already soul-melting parts, complemented by guitarist Mikey
McCallum’s Delta-inspired and mystery-inflected guitar lines.”

Revival House and accommodation at Foster’s Inn. Dinner is optional, but
encouraged and must be reserved separately through the venue.
Revival House, formerly the Church Restaurant, is one of Stratford’s most iconic buildings. A former Baptist church-turned-fine dining restaurant, Revival House is co-owned and operated by Stratford native Rob Wigan and his wife Candice Wigan. The 1,676-square-metre property was gutted in the spring of 2014 and its majestic interior transformed into a “smart casual” restaurant and lounge with an expansive kitchen that embraces the local farm to table concept. Revival House was featured in enRoute, Air Canada’s inflight travel magazine, as a “must visit” spot to enjoy while visiting southern Ontario.
