Family Day
weekend
Feb. 15 to 17, 2020 activities around the province
Family Day is a great opportunity for outdoor adventures. Provincial parks across Ontario will
host
events all weekend long to help
families make great memories.
- Algonquin Provincial Park’s Winter in the Wild will feature indoor and outdoor events at various locations along the Highway 60 corridor. Events include guided bird walks, guest speakers, guided snowshoe excursions, skating, winter camping demos, marshmallow roasting, and a special evening program.
- The Visitor Centre at Rondeau Provincial Park will be open from Saturday to Monday, 10:00 am to 4:00 pm. On Saturday, visitors can meet local artists, experience traditional dancing and storytelling, enjoy a light lunch and treats, and roast marshmallows around a campfire.
Romantic Valentine’s Day getaways still available
There are still roofed accommodations available for couples looking for a
last-minute getaway around Valentine’s Day. Each month through the winter, we
post
a summary of the top cabin and yurt vacancies province-wide.
Fun park date ideas include forest skating, tobogganing, a hike on a snowshoe trail, and more. A full list is available on the
Ontario
Parks blog.
Licence-free Family Fishing Weekend
Several
Ontario provincial parks permit ice fishing, including Silent Lake
Provincial Park, Arrowhead Provincial Park, and Windy Lake Provincial
Park, which offers an ice fishing rental
kit for beginners.
Did you know?
Ontario
Parks has many activities to offer
winter visitors,
including cross-country skiing, snowshoeing, and winter hiking. To help
visitors stay up to date with the conditions of these
trails, Ontario Parks posts regular updates all season long on our
Ski
Report.
Each
provincial park individually submits updates, summarizing the
conditions within
their park and the status of their trails. This will help visitors
determine the best times and locations for their winter adventures.
