TORONTO, December 18, 2012 – Next year will mark the 110th anniversary of Toronto’s King Edward, a Skyline Hotel and to celebrate, the hotel is offering an exclusive limited time offer from
$110/night for bookings made by December 31, 2012 for stays from
January 1 through January 31, 2013.
The special rate is valid on the
deluxe room category only. In addition, the first 110 guests to book the
anniversary offer will receive complimentary Wi-Fi.
The
King Edward Hotel was constructed in 1903 as Toronto’s first luxury
hotel, setting the standard for upscale hotels in Canada. Founded by
George Gooderham, one of Toronto’s wealthiest men at the time, The King
Edward Hotel was built at a cost of $6 million in a time when the city
was undergoing massive development.
The property was considered a
destination for visitors and Torontonians alike – boasting an impressive
art collection and several restaurants and parlours where business men
could meet, while ladies passed the time on the exclusive women’s-only
second floor.
In 1921, an 18-storey addition made the hotel one of Toronto’s tallest buildings. The 17th and 18th
floors featured a lavish social venue, The Crystal Ballroom, named for
its impressive chandeliers, which served as the backdrop for many
functions, society weddings and special announcements.
Today
The King Edward Hotel is a model of graceful Canadian elegance and
time-honoured tradition. More announcements regarding celebrations and
events at the hotel in honour of the 110th anniversary will be made in the coming months.
