Gallery goes big with life-sized games; discounted family passes on sale now
TORONTO —
Games and fun rule at the Art Gallery of Ontario (AGO) this Family Day with the
annual Kids Gallery of
Ontario (KGO)
takeover.
The popular KGO returns this Monday, Feb. 17, 2014,
from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. for a special day of family art-making and life-sized
games. Offering a full day of drop-in programs spread out across the entire
Gallery, the KGO invites families to experience a variety of exciting hands-on
activities.
To make family visits more affordable that day, the AGO is offering a $10 discount on Family Passes, reducing the price to $39. A family pass admits two adults and as many as five youths (ages 6 to 17). As always, admission for children ages 5 and under is free. The pass, which is good for general admission to the Gallery, includes activities in the galleries, films in Jackman Hall and art-making in the AGO’s Weston Family Learning Centre.

The kids’ takeover of the Gallery begins on Dundas Street West with the reworking of the AGO’s iconic red sign to reflect the temporary name change. Once inside, families can become artists and explorers as they participate in the following activities, FREE with the price of admission:
- The brand new Kids' Gallery, featuring the Just Like Me: Explore, Imagine, Create exhibition where you can have your child’s portrait added to the in-gallery Instagram display
- A Gallery-wide game of Clue begins in Walker Court
- Art-making with instructors in the Dr. Anne Tanenbaum Gallery School, where everyone can create their own original works of art
- Oversized board games happening all day on the floor of Walker Court
- KGO dance party in Walker Court with a DJ at 11 a.m., 1 p.m. and 3 p.m
- A “Build it and Take it Apart Room,” where kids will be encouraged to take art apart and put it back together in as many ways as possible
- Family yoga at 11 a.m. and 3 p.m. in the AGO’s Weston Family Learning Centre
- KGO art tours, giving families a “kids’ eye view” of the AGO collection
- All day art-making, storytelling and costume play for the KGO’s youngest visitors in the Dr. Mariano Elia Hands-On Centre(ages 5 and under)
- Screenings of art-inspired family films all day long in Jackman Hall
- Kids eat free in cafeAGO with the purchase of an adult meal (ages 5 and under)

Family Day is an ideal opportunity for older kids and parents to explore the AGO’s collections and the history of art. Upstairs, families can explore eight years that changed the art world in the AGO’s special exhibition The Great Upheaval: Masterpieces from the Guggenheim Collection, 1910-1918. Entrance to this exhibition is surcharged and tickets can be purchased in advance at www.ago.net.
Adventure-seeking tweens are encouraged to try out the AGO’s most recent mobile app, Time Tremors AGO, and transform their trip to the Gallery into a real-time interactive treasure hunt. Geared toward families and children ages 7 to 12, this app sends players navigating through the Gallery in search of clues hidden in works of art. Visitors can play different missions customized for the AGO can be played all together in a single session or on subsequent visits to the Gallery as a single player or in a group.
Time Tremors AGO is available now for download from the iTunes store and Google Play at a cost of $2.99 and is supported for Android 4.1 + as well as iPad 2, iPad 3, iPad 4, iPhone 4, 4S, 5 and iPod Touch 4 and 5 generations. Visitors are encouraged to download the app from the iTunes store before they visit.
