Pet-friendly Ontario Parks let campers take along the whole family

Ontario Parks photo
Looking for a place to camp with your dog this summer? Try Ontario Parks.

While all of Ontario's provincial parks are pet-friendly, some offer more than others when it comes to camping with your pet. Almost 30 Ontario Parks have a designated pet exercise area, a pet beach or both.

Every provincial park requires pet owners to follow a basic set of guidelines. A dog must be kept on a leash not exceeding two metres in length. Owners must ensure their pets don't make excessive noise or disturb others.

Dogs are not allowed in park buildings, including roofed accommodation, or on main beach areas and they must not chase or harass wildlife.

A complete list of do's and don'ts along with where to find pet-amenity parks across Ontario are found in this Park Blog post, http://www.parkreports.com/parksblog/?p=6358#more-6358. For a look at some of Ontario's best parks to camp with your pet, visit this pet-friendly post, http://www.parkreports.com/parksblog/?p=6381

If you prefer to camp without pets, choose Awenda, Balsam Lake, The Pinery, Voyageur or Algonquin Provincial Parks which all have designated pet-free campgrounds.

Planning an August visit to Ontario Parks? Check the Calendar of Events on the Ontario Parks web site, http://www.ontarioparks.com/events. There are wolf howls, stargazing parties, a ghost walk, photography workshops, a kids' fishing derby and even a major battle is planned.

Hundreds of re-enactors will descend on Wasaga Beach Provincial Park and turn parts of it into a bicentennial War of 1812 battlefield. More August event information is included in this Park Blog post, http://www.parkreports.com/parksblog/?p=6344
