Safety is keystone for Bike Month in Greater Toronto Area

HOW TO KEEP CYCLISTS SAFE AND DRIVERS HAPPY

The authorities at McLeish Orlando provide useful cycling safety tips
as Bike Month 2012 takes over Toronto for the month of June

TORONTO (June 6, 2012) – If motorists believe they’re seeing more bicycles on GTA roadways than ever this spring, their eyes are not deceiving them. As Toronto’s Bike Month 2012 takes to the streets starting June 1st, it’s becoming even more important that four-wheeled vehicles share the roads safely with the two-wheeled variety – and Patrick Brown, Partner at McLeish Orlando LLP and a Director of both Cycle Toronto (formerly the Toronto Cyclists Union) and the Ontario Safety League – knows how safety standards can be improved.

“It’s unfortunate we keep saying that as a critical injury law firm, we really have seen it all – but the truth is I’ve worked with so many individuals and families who have experienced a cycling accident or fatality, that my insights into road safety for cyclists really can protect more people during this June’s Bike Month,” said Patrick Brown. “As an avid cyclist, my personal experience riding to work and on the streets of Toronto has offered me greater understanding as to what motorists and cyclists must do to reduce injuries on the road.”

Going whole hog for Canadian barbecue team

ONLY CANADIAN TEAM IN
WORLD’S LARGEST PORK BARBECUE COMPETITION
PLACES 5TH AMONG 250 GLOBAL GRILLERS

Ontario’s Black Pig Competition BBQ Team beats out all but four of
the world’s best barbecue teams battling it out for searing stardom
(Toronto) – The only Canadian team in the World Championship Barbecue Cooking Contest held May 17 – 19 in Memphis, Tennessee concocted a spectacular fifth place in the whole hog division as 250 teams from more than 20 U.S. states and several countries around the world competed for more than $110,000 in prize money.

Heading into what’s actually almost a week of preparation and heated grilling action, the Consulate General of Canada in Atlanta officially threw its support behind Ontario’s Black Pig Competition BBQ team. Talks are underway to establish the team as Canada’s official BBQ representatives at future international competitions.

“This is just a huge achievement and the whole team is absolutely ecstatic with the result,” said team member Stephen Perrin, Executive Chef and owner of three highly successful Ontario restaurants — Terra and Sarpa, both in Richmond Hill, and Rusty’s in Collingwood.

Much ado about "something" at Stratford Shakespeare Festival

Festival officially launches 60th season on Monday

May 25, 2012… The Stratford Shakespeare Festival launches its 60th season on Monday, May 28, with a gala performance of Much Ado About Nothing. This is the final season under the artistic directorship of Des McAnuff, and one that promises an array of wonderful theatre for every taste and age group.

“The 60th season is representative of Stratford in all its glory,” says Mr. McAnuff, who is directing Henry V and Christopher Plummer’s A Word or Two, both of which open later in the season. “Embodying Stratford’s hallmark marriage of tradition and innovation, the playbill ranges from the very roots of drama to some of the finest playwrights working in Canada today. Shakespearean comedy, history and romance are complemented by a hilarious contemporary pastiche of Shakespearean tragedy, while the season’s varied musical theatre repertoire acknowledges our own era’s great contribution to the western dramatic tradition. Meanwhile, the strength of our acting company is being showcased not only in Stratford but also on Broadway, with the Tony-nominated Jesus Christ Superstar.”

Hang on, Leviathan has arrived at Canada's Wonderland joining Dinousars Alive!

   One-Tank Trip for April 28/12

   (c)| By Jim Fox

Hang on to your hats – Canada’s Wonderland is unleashing Leviathan.
As well, the country’s largest theme park in Vaughan, north of Toronto, will unearth mammoth full-size dinosaurs in an outdoor Jurassic Park of sorts.
The thrills don’t stop there: You can again hang around the top of Toronto’s CN Tower living life on the edge.
Leviathan, called “one of the biggest and tallest” roller coasters in the world, takes off at Canada’s Wonderland this season.
   Fly like an eagle
Enjoy life in the fast lane on Leviathan, a brute-force roller coaster that’s said to be “one of the biggest and tallest” in the world.
With the park’s opening on May 6, the monster coaster will “dominate the landscape, taking riders to breathtaking heights and speeds never experienced before at Wonderland,” said public relations manager Dineen Beaven.
“The excitement begins on Leviathan’s first lift hill as riders climb to a record-breaking height of 93.3 metres (306 feet) followed by an exhilarating 80-degree drop,” she explains.
“Reaching a top speed of 148 kilometres per hour, riders experience extreme coaster thrills on 1,672 metres (5,486 feet) of track that includes a series of giant camelback hills reaching heights up to 54.9 metres (180 feet).
“Then, there’s an astonishing overbanked hammerhead turn at 115 degrees that crosses above the park’s front gate at 44.8 metres (147 feet) high.”
