The
62nd Canadian Open Old Time Fiddle Championship takes place August 8 – 12, 2012
in Shelburne, Ontario.
Miss Canada International and Miss Teen
Canada International will be part of the fiddle parade and the Saturday evening
Championship Finals and Entertainment.
Sponsored by the Rotary Club of Shelburne with partners
Dufferin Mutual and the Town of Shelburne, the event features Canada’s top
fiddlers in competition for more than $17,000 in prizes!
Besides championship
fiddlers, this year’s event will include
a concert by the Blazing Fiddles, Cape Ceol fiddle and stepdance show, jam sessions, parade, beer garden, Battle of the Bands, pork BBQ,
non-denominational church service, Aerosmith and Country Superstars tribute
bands, open air market, lots of entertainment and food at the Legion, camping
and much more!

Miss Canada International Melanie
Williamson
is 19 years of age from Kitchener, Ontario. A second year student at the University
of Waterloo in business. The first young lady to hold the national title from
Ontario in ten years. Melanie’s platform is Awareness for Mental Health. Miss Teen Canada International Nikita
Singh, 18 years of age from Kitchener, Ontario, will be
attending University of Toronto in the fall to study health, hoping to pursue a
career as a doctor. Nikita’s platform is Bullying in Today's Society. Both
ladies are Goodwill Ambassadors for the Teddy Bears of Hope Foundation, a not-for-profit campaign of Love and Hope from children
of Canada to children in other parts of the world, children who are lonely,
underprivileged, and caught in a web of poverty and despair due to no fault of
their own. To help with our collection of bears for Haiti, please bring a teddy
bear with a personal message and a toonie attached to the fiddle parade.

in Prizes Will Be Awarded
The contest finals happen on
Saturday, August 11 at 6:30 p.m. and will feature entertainment by the Black
Family, ten children extending in age from 21 down to
5. Their music, ranging from old-time fiddle tunes to vocal favourites from
years past, has added many happy times, memories and laughter to their family
life and is sure to get your toes tapping and your hands clapping! A judges’ showcase will also be part of the Saturday
night entertainment, featuring Webb Acheson, Karen Reed, and Kelli Trottier, the judges for this year’s contest. Come and enjoy
Canada’s top fiddlers waltz, jig, and reel their way to over $17,000 in prizes!
