Woodstock, ON – The Woodstock Fair at the Woodstock Fair Grounds, Aug. 23rd – 26th is celebrating its 176th anniversary.
“The volunteers have been brainstorming to bring something new to the fair this year.” stated fair board member Elizabeth Burrill.
“Highlights this year include the RAM Rodeo on Thursday and Friday night in front of the grandstand and a performance by the “Canadian Cowgirls” who have been invited to appear at the Tournament of Roses Parade, Jan 1, 2013 in Pasadena, California.
A parade along Dundas Street, from the Zeller’s parking lot to the fairgrounds kicks off the festivities at 5:00 pm on Thursday evening. Opening Ceremonies, in front of the grandstand, begin at 6:00 pm, followed by the Canadian Cowgirls and the RAM Rodeo.
“It promises to be an action-packed evening of entertainment.” said Elizabeth Burrill. Other fair features include cooking demos, mutton busting, cattle and horse shows, Mad Science FUNstations, baby show, Rise to Fame talent show, a demolition derby, the Amazing Corbin, a reptile display and much more.
“As part of our foodie theme, Lynn Ogryzlo, author of “The Ontario Table” will be this year’s featured speaker at Friday’s luncheon at the fair.” noted Elizabeth, “Along with cooking demonstrations using our local products. So anyone who has a passion for cooking should enjoy these demos.”
Residents of Oxford County, and beyond, are invited to participate in the competitions for livestock, fruits, vegetables & flowers, baking, preserves, photography, sewing, knitting & crocheting, quilting and more.
Directions: From 401 Highway, exit #232, go north on Highway #59 to Dundas St. and turn right, continue ease to the top of the hill and turn left on West St. to Nellis and the fairgrounds.
