Buika, Hiromi and Measha join the 2014 TD Toronto Jazz Festival

Toronto – Three internationally acclaimed musicians, each with their own distinct sound, will headline the TD Toronto Jazz Festival in an intimate series at Koerner Hall, celebrating diversity and world music.

  Hiromi: The Trio  Project – Tuesday, June 24 Known for her technique and high-energy performances, this Japanese-born pianist pushes musicianship to unprecedented levels of complexity and sophistication. An utterly original improviser and composer who turns each piece into a thrilling ride, Hiromi is one of jazz piano’s most brazenly virtuosic players capable of playing stride with blinding speed and deadly accuracy.

Buika – Wednesday, June 25 Voted one of the best “50 Great Voices” by NPR and hailed as Flamenco Queen, Latin Grammy Award-winning jazz and flamenco vocalist Buika is blessed with a remarkable voice; raw and smoky but with a tenderness that hits right at the heart. Blending her African background with her Spanish upbringing, a unique confluence of cultural influences that could only produce such an original artist, Buika mixes flamenco, coplas, jazz and soul with popular Latin American songs. A commanding performer who has emerged as a true innovator, Buika is a must-see artist among jazz and music aficionados. 

Measha Brueggergosman – Thursday, June 26 Canadian soprano Measha Brueggergosman crosses over into jazz in this latest project, performing a selection of jazz standards. Having cemented her status as a fresh and youthful ambassador for classical music that breaks the stereotype of an opera diva in every way imaginable, Brueggergosman is a force to be reckoned with. With an innate musicianship and voluptuous voice, she has emerged as one of the most magnificent performers and vibrant personalities of the day.
